Asian Pacific American Medical Students Association (APAMSA)

The Asian Pacific American Medical Students Association (APAMSA) is a national organization of medical students committed to addressing the unique health challenges of Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander communities. Here at Weill, we organize community engagement and outreach, plan cultural celebrations, create spaces for education and discussion that are open to all members of the WCM community. One of the major pros of being in NYC for med school is interacting with diverse patient populations throughout the city  Dr. Kevin Ching (Pediatric Emergency Medicine) serves as faculty advisor. 

Association of Native American Medical Students (ANAMS)

The Association of Native American Medical Students (ANAMS) hopes to build a supportive community on campus, to work with WCM diversity initiatives to help recruit more Native American medical students, and to raise awareness about the many health issues that Indian Country faces.  ANAMS also collaborates with Native American students at other NYC medical colleges, Native American organizations throughout NYC, and the national Association of Native American Medical Students organization.

Black and Latino Men in Medicine (BLMiM)

Black and Latino Men in Medicine was founded at the New York-Presbyterian Weill Cornell Medical Center as a network of physicians, scientists, medical students, and post-graduate trainees to raise awareness of the myriad of issues involved in the precipitous decline of Black and Latino men in healthcare, medicine, and science. Through networking, program development, and community engagement, BLMiM seeks to support and provide mentorship for Black and Latino men interested in medicine/science, while advocating for effective and sustainable solutions to combat this national crisis.

Jewish Students Organization of Cornell (JSOC)

The Jewish Students Organization of Cornell (JSOC) is dedicated to celebrating Jewish culture and strengthening the Jewish community at Weill Cornell. JSOC hosts communal Shabbat dinners (both catered and potluck!), as well as celebrations for Chanukah, Purim, Lag Ba’Omer, and other Jewish festivities. Additionally, JSOC connects Weill Cornell students to opportunities and resources throughout New York’s Jewish Community.  

Latino Medical Student Association (LMSA)

The Latino Medical Student Association (LMSA) is a national organization of medical students committed to addressing the unique health challenges of Latinx communities, students and trainees. The WCM chapter of LMSA organizes community engagement and outreach activities, plans cultural celebrations, creates spaces for education and open discussion, and much more. Our chapter maintains an active presence within the regional and national organization and was recognized as the “Chapter-of-the-Year” by the national leadership for four years in a row from 2012 to 2015 LMSA has historically hosted various community service   events, including the Heart-to-Heart Bilingual Volunteer program bringing language-concordant medical screening to underserved communities. 

Middle Eastern and North African Student Association (MENASA)

The Middle Eastern and North African Student Association hopes to provide a community for Middle Eastern and North African students at WCM. By holding events to celebrate MENA culture, we hope to both provide an avenue for MENA students to meet one another and expose the WCM community to MENA culture and traditions. 

Muslim Students Association of Weill (MSAW)

The Muslim Students Association of Weill is a group for Muslim and non-Muslim students, who wish to explore Islam, learn more about it, and interact with other health professional students who may share similar drives and challenges. The climate of the world today is a scary one and now, more so than ever, communities like this are paramount to shedding light on who Muslims really are. Our activities will range from casual get-togethers to holiday celebrations to in-depth discussions about Islam as a faith, and in the context of healthcare and of the world at large. 

Q! Queer Health Alliance

The Queer Health Alliance is a student group focusing on LGBTQ+ issues within the realm of medicine. Our mission is to create a supportive and inclusive environment for LGBTQ+ students and allies at WCM, while also engaging in meaningful discussions about sexual orientation and identity in a medical context. The aims of this group include creating and fostering an open and accepting environment for LGBT students at WCM, as well as holding events that provide forums for discussion of sexual orientation and identity in the medical context. The group organizes educational programs and has worked both to increase LGBT visibility and to incorporate lectures on LGBT health issues in the curriculum.  

South Asian Medical Student Association (SAMSA)

The South Asian Medical Student Association at Weill Cornell (SAMSA) seeks to increase awareness about issues relevant to members of the South Asian community and to celebrate South Asian people and culture. We connect students with faculty and residents in the NYP-Weill Cornell network and take part in cultural events throughout New York City.

Student National Medical Association (SNMA)

The Student National Medical Association (SNMA) is the oldest and largest national medical student organization to support, develop and foster community among underrepresented communities. SNMA is modeled after the National Medical Association (the physician organization that promotes the collective interests of physicians and patients of African descent). This group is populated primarily by students of African descent but is open to all those with a demonstrated and enduring commitment to advancing educational equity, belonging, and inclusion excellence for underrepresented groups. The   WCM chapter of SNMA was previously recognized as co-chapter of the year for Region IX (along with Albert Einstein) in recognition of its excellence.  Additionally, our chapter of SNMA founded the Health Professions Recruitment and Exposure Program (HPREP) over 30 years ago, a program now adopted by many SNMA chapters nationwideWe are an active and vibrant community within the larger WCM community and frequently partner with other SEOM groups (particularly LMSA) for initiatives, gatherings and other events.

Students for Equal Opportunity in Medicine (SEOM)

Students for Equal Opportunity in Medicine (SEOM) is an umbrella organization for medical students from minority cultural, ethnic or racial backgrounds. The many activities of SEOM include an Annual Regional Pre–medical Conference for middle school, high school, and college students; hosting affinity group events during Accepted Students Weekend, serving as liaisons throughout the admissions process, coordination of social and networking events throughout the academic year, operationalizing pathway/capacity building programs, and sponsoring the  Senior Toast” , an annual event held in collaboration with the Office of Student Diversity to celebrate the accomplishments of graduating SEOM students.  

Watering My Garden (WMG)

Watering My Garden is a support group/sister circle for self-identified women of color. We host events with speakers that facilitate discussions about a wide variety of topics that intersect with medicine including but not limited to, relationships, leadership, and identity. Our goal is to provide a safe space to be in community with one another as we navigate our paths in medicine. 

WCM Christians in Medicine

WCM Christians in Medicine aims to cultivate a welcoming group for both Christians and non-Christians where we can discuss our faith in the context of pursuing medical and scientific careers.

Weill FLI

Weill FLI is a student group on campus under the umbrella of SEOM created to address the needs of the first-generation/low-income community at WCMC and beyond by providing resources, mentorship, community, and opportunities for advocacy and outreach. The aim of this group is to build a supportive network for FLI medical students on campus, serve FLI students in surrounding communities, and work closely with the administration to both advocate for first-gen low-income students as well as integrate relevant health disparity issues into the medical curriculum.

White Coats for Black Lives (WC4BL)

White Coats for Black Lives serves to dismantle racism in medicine and promote the health, well-being, and self-determination of Black and Indigenous people, and other people of color. WC4BL was founded in 2014 when medical students throughout the country organized a national response to the deaths of Michael Brown and Eric Garner and other victims of racial violence. We aim to achieve racial justice in our communities, in our hospitals, and in medical education.

Women in Medicine (WIM)

Women in Medicine (WIM) seeks to bring female students and faculty members together at WCM and provide a platform for our members to communicate and address the unique challenges women face in the field of medicine. We aim to inspire, encourage, and enable female students to realize their professional and personal goals through programmings such as forums, discussion groups, regional conferences, and community outreach. In addition, as a chapter of the National American Medical Women’s Association (AMWA), we support their goals to promote the advancement of women in medicine and improve women's health.
