Objectives

The Medical Education Subway Summit provides a collegial inter-institutional venue for faculty, house staff, and medical students across New York City to share their innovations and scholarship in medical education and to engage in substantive dialogue.  It is hoped that this local sharing of educational peer-reviewed scholarly works will lead to enhanced educational practice among our community participants.

Background

The Subway Summit was first hosted in 2014 at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, in partnership with the Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University, New York University School of Medicine, Weill Cornell Medical College, and the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.  More recently, CUNY School of Medicine, SUNY Downstate Medical Center, and Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine joined as co-sponsors. Each year, the event location rotates among these 8 institutions, but it remains focused on medical education research and innovations.

Information for Presenters

Opening Session

Presenters from each of the 8 Subway Summit medical schools will share a highlight(s) from their “Wellness Curriculum.” Each presenters will be limited to 5 minutes (and a maximum of 5 slides).

Posters

Poster Size

Each presenter will be provided with a 6-foot-high by 5-foot-wide poster board.  Poster boards have a 2-inch metal frame.  Thus, dimensions of the useable work area are 68 inches by 56 inches.  Posters must not exceed those dimensions. We suggest that posters be no larger than 3 feet x 5 feet.

Display

Posters must be mounted for display between 12:00pm and 4:30pm. Pushpins will be available.

You will receive a poster number once the final program is announced.  You will mount your poster on the poster board that has the same corresponding number in the top right corner of the board.

Location

Griffis Faculty Club

1300 York Avenue, First Floor

Discussion

Poster viewing and discussion with authors is scheduled from 5:00 to 6:00pm, during a wine & cheese reception. Confirmed author presenters are expected to be at their posters during this time.

Short Communications

A short communication is a 10-minute presentation by one to two presenters/authors, followed by a 5-minute question-and-answer period.  Session moderators will ensure that each presenter adheres to the 15-minute limit.

Presenters are asked to bring their presentations on a flash drive shortly before the official start time of the session.  Presenters who choose to use their own personal laptop are advised to bring their own adapter if their laptop does not have a built-in HDMI/VGA port.  (The two most common types of adapters are a mini display port (Thunderbolt) or usb-C.)  However, they should also have their presentation on a flash drive in case any connection issues arise.  Audiovisual assistance will be available, if needed.

Workshops

Each workshop is to be an interactive 90-minute session. Workshop rooms have moveable tables (10) and chairs (approximately 35-40). Each room is equipped with a computer, but if presenters wish to use their own laptop, they should bring an adapter if it does not have a built-in HDMI/VGA port.  (The two most common types of adapters are a mini display port (Thunderbolt) or usb-C.)  However, they should also have their presentation on a flash drive in case any connection issues arise.  Audiovisual assistance will be available, if needed.
